History

Pegasus Airlines has the OACI code: PGT and the IATA code: H9.

Founded in 1990 as a joint venture between Aer Lingus, Silkar Investments, and Net Holding, Pegasus Airlines has evolved from a charter airline to a low-cost carrier, expanding its network of destinations and modernising its fleet to meet the growing demand for affordable air travel.

Although Pegasus Airlines is not a member of any of the three major global airline alliances (Star Alliance, SkyTeam, or Oneworld), it has established codeshare agreements with several companies to extend its route network. Among its partners are Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways, Air Europa, KLM, and Air Berlin. These agreements allow Pegasus to offer its passengers a wider variety of global routes and connections.

In December 2024, Pegasus Airlines, Turkey's leading low-cost carrier, signed an agreement with Boeing for the acquisition of 100 Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft, with an option for an additional 100. Valued at approximately $5.85 billion after customary discounts, this order marks the largest in the airline's history and strengthens its commitment to fleet expansion and modernisation.
